Right click on the desktop
Select "Properties" from the menu
Select "Settings" from the dialog box
On the area settings where it is mentioned 640x480 / 800x600 / 1024x768. Select 1024x768 High Colour (16 bit).
Select the option "Apply the settings without restarting the computer".
If the colours seem to be destorted, then it is better you restart windows for better clarity.
